IHI – call 6
IHI – call 6 is a two-stage call for proposals with the following topics:

  • Topic 1: Support healthcare system resilience through a focus on persistency in the treatment of chronic diseases
  • Topic 2: Development of evidence based practical guidance for sponsors on the use of real-world data / real-world evidence

Deadline for short proposals: 16 April 2024 at 17:00 Brussels time
Deadline for full proposals: 10 October 2024 at 17:00 Brussels time

IHI – call 7
IHI – call 7 is a single-stage call for proposals with the following topics:

  • Topic 1: Improving clinical management of heart disease from early detection to treatment
  • Topic 2: User-centric technologies and optimised hospital workflows for a sustainable healthcare workforce
  • Topic 3: Clinical validation of biomarkers for diagnosis, monitoring disease progression and treatment response

Info sessions and networking
The IHI Call Days for calls 6 & 7 are running from 10 January to 25 January 2024 inclusive. They include info sessions on the topics, our rules & procedures, and preparing the financial parts of the proposal, as well as pitching sessions on the topics. Participants can also use the Call Days website to identify and meet potential project partners. The recordings of these info sessions are also available online. With the aim of enabling potential applicants to begin preparations, IHI has decided to publish the draft topic texts ahead of the official call launch, scheduled for summer 2023.

Note that the topics are currently under consultation with the States’ Representatives Group and Science and Innovation Panel. They may therefore change considerably between the versions published here and the call launch, and applicants should check the final, approved topic texts once the calls are launched.

These informative sessions will cover the details of calls 4 and 5. The IHI Call Days aim to provide potential applicants with the information they need to put together a strong proposal, and give them the opportunity to identify and meet partners for their consortia.

This event, which is targeted towards small and medium-sized enterprises, patient organisations, regulatory authorities, academic teams, industry, hospitals and other organisations with an interest in IHI projects, will take place in Brussels, Belgium and online on June 14th from 09.00 to 17.00 CET.

  • Info session: The first part of the morning is a classic info session. It will cover the topics of the first calls, the call conditions and rules for participation, and opportunities for SMEs. The session includes time for questions.
  • Networking: To submit a proposal for an IHI call, you need to be part of a consortium. The second half of the morning and the afternoon are dedicated to networking via one-on-one brokerage meetings and pitching sessions.

Participation in the event is free but registration is mandatory.

The webinar will take place on March 29th from 14.00 – 15.30 CET.

The webinar aims to showcase how participation in IMI funded projects benefits SMEs in terms of growing their businesses and also in further developing expertise in collaboration with other project participants. By bringing their own innovative ideas, products, services, and expertise, they are helping IMI projects achieve outstanding, long-lasting results. In IHI projects, SMEs will continue to act as a key interface between the latest academic discoveries and implementation in industry.

The first call for proposals will be launched in the first half of 2022. The following draft themes could be included in the future calls:

Single stage calls

  • Innovative patient-facing care pathways for patients with neurodegenerative diseases and comorbidities
  • Next generation imaging and image-guided diagnosis and therapy for cancer
  • Precision oncology: Innovative patient-centric, multi-modal therapies against cancer
  • Access and integration of heterogeneous health data for improved health care in diseases areas of high unmet public health need.

Two stage calls

  • New tools for prediction, prevention and monitoring of cardio-metabolic diseases including secondary manifestations to enable timely intervention
  • Strengthening EU clinical development excellence and innovation attractiveness: Harmonised methodology to promote the uptake of early feasibility studies (EFS)

IHI will build on the successes of and lessons learnt from the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI). The goal of IHI is to help create an EU-wide health research and innovation ecosystem that facilitates the translation of scientific knowledge into tangible innovations, with a total proposed budget of €2.4 billion.

The Commission welcomes feedback on the draft SRIA from members of the rare disease community. The draft SRIA will become a binding document of the IHI upon formal establishment and adoption by the Governing Board. Interested parties can send feedback by email: RTD-IHI [at] ec.europa.eu.
